The following is the accepted definition of being fit:
“in good health, especially because of regular physical exercise”
Doesn’t sound too hard right?
The truth is, getting fit or staying fit doesn’t have to be a chore.
The only reason it sounds like a chore to you specifically is because you know too much about cardio or shredding and frankly, you’re confused.
Which is totally fine!
Let me simplify it for you with the following tips:
1. At least One Meal
I’d be lying if I said every one of my meals were healthy….and I’m already fit.
In fact, according to 12 Minute Athlete, “fit people don’t eat 100% healthy all the time”.
And there’s a good reason for that.
Sneaking in some cookies or chocolate here and there has it’s benefits for your mental health which I’ll talk more about in the 3rd tip.
Which is why for you, someone trying to be more fit, I recommend the following:
- Get at least one healthy meal in a day
- Treat yourself accordingly (1 healthy meal, 1 small snack)
Do whatever it takes to get into some kind of rhythm.
After all, it’s consistency that gets us places, so do what works!
2. Your Life Is A Gym
I’ve touched upon this in my previous article (check it out if you missed it!)
A great way to transition into a fit lifestyle is to see everything as an opportunity.
I know that sounds super cliche but…
- Why take the elevator when you can take the stairs?
- Why take the bus when you can walk for 30 minutes?
- Why read this post sitting when you could be doing sit-ups?
This’ll come in handy when you’re on the road or buried under work.
Make life your gym, not gym your life.
3. Keep Your Sanity
This is a big deal.
Once you start seeing the changes in your body, you’ll want to speed things up. This is admirable but it can have it’s consequences.
Remember, the body’s an amazing machine but it can only work so fast.
For example, I’ve tried shredding once by going keto and fasting intermittently. Long story short, I got nowhere and was miserable for a month.
Going to the gym twice a day, or restricting small snacks can potentially hinder your consistency. Once this happens, your rhythm stops and so do the changes.
Take my advice and find a schedule and nutrition plan you can stick with.
Then once you feel like you can handle more, you can “up the ante”.
