I read something the other day that really resonated with me:
“Motivated isn’t something you should always feel,
if you do, your goal is probably way to easy.”
It really made me think twice about my journey and those days that are so challenging but the most rewarding if we take advantage of them.
In light of the words above, here’s something to think about:
The Day I Live For
It’s been said that change doesn’t happen overnight and my answer to that is:
“Depends on what kind of day yesterday was.”
If yesterday was laid back; work was a breeze, smiles all around and an overall solid day then no, change won’t happen overnight.
But if yesterday was like the Tuesday I had this week…then you have to wonder.
BOTH jobs were stressful, there was no time for in-between meals and so hunger loomed everywhere AND sleep the night before was just shy of 5 hours.
Tuesday was a nightmare.
Regardless however, I convinced myself to step on that treadmill and finish 90 minutes of cardio because if I didn’t, I’d have to wait for another opportunity.
For Tuesday was also a gift.
Bitter Sweet Tuesdays
As much as I dread their arrival, I know in the back of my head that once those Tuesdays are over, change will happen overnight.
Not a 10 pounds lost or 1,000 followers overnight change, a better kind.
The kind that makes the next Tuesday, less challenging.
The kind that makes you wake up in the morning and smile.
The kind of change that makes the next couple of weeks a walk in the park until another Tuesday comes and you need to push yourself again.
I love those Tuesdays.
In fact, I wish everyday was a Tuesday until no more Tuesdays were needed. Until there’s no physical or mental challenge I can’t overcome. Until everyday becomes a walk in the park and I’m lying in bed telling myself, “I did it”.
But alas, life’s a bunch of hills and valleys, not a straight shot to the top.
An Empty Tank And Hopelessness
So to answer your question, what do you do when you’ve lost all motivation?
Be ready because now’s what really matters. Now, you’re one of us.
You’ve done your time. 12 years of it in Azkaban…
You’ve scouted about on Instagram and FaceBook, hoping for a motivational post to fuel your workout. You’ve set alarms, made friends at work and the gym, asked questions of the more experienced, begged for a chance…
And you’ve made it, but it’s different now.
Now, Arnold Schwarzenegger or Shark Tank videos won’t work anymore and motivation is a thing of the past.
Now, the only thing that’ll keep you going…is you.
So ask yourself, do you want it as bad as you tell your family and friends?
Or are you just in it for 6 days a week?
Passion Thrown In The Mix
Another reason I really appreciate the coming of those Tuesdays is because they remind me that I am on track.
I’ve gotten so many messages and concerns leading back to the same question:
“But what if you’re unsure of your passion?“
Well, it’s very simple.
If you consistently knock out those Tuesdays one after another *bam bam bam* then you’re on the right track.
If you consistently ignore the challenge and take the easy way out, then you’re not.
And there’s no shame in that.
Keep exploring, learning, discovering and above all, just work hard.
That’s all there is to it.
